The Incorporation of LARA
On October 24, 1992, at the Nisswa, Minnesota, City Hall, representatives of thirty-two lake and river associations from Crow Wing County met to discuss the desirability of forming an alliance of their organizations.
It was the consensus of those present that a county-wide organization was needed to represent the common interests of the member associations to the county, regional, state and federal levels of government. After a lengthy discussion and an unanimous vote, a board of directors was elected and authorized to incorporate the organization under IRS Section 501(c)(3), and to draft by-laws for consideration by the membership. In addition, the alliance was charged with providing educational and organizational support to existing and emerging lake and river associations in the pursuit of the preservation and enhancement of water quality in all its natural forms.
The beneficiaries of this alliance are the people of Minnesota and, more specifically, the current and future inhabitants of Crow Wing County.
